shiney smoke stacks

Hello --  I have a 675 with a silver colored smoke stack. It looks as if it is pressed in rather than being part of the boiler casting. I have seen a 726 with the same type of stack.  This seems to be a somewhat rare treatment.  Why was this done by Lionel?

Most of the loco's with working smoke units do not have cast in smoke stacks.  The stack is a seperate item that was pressed in.  Some of the units were left unpainted.
