If you can get a hold of this TCA book like I have, it says that the couplers used, coincide with the year the pieces were made.  The TCA book I have is called, " Second Edition TCA Lionel Book Committee ".  If you email me, I can relay the types of couplers your trains used in those years.

Hope this will help .

Thanks, John

Have recently started collecting preware engines and rolling stock.(Engines 150, 248,252, 38, 318E and 8E)So far, three different types of couplers. Would like to find a source for precise dates when used.

Thanks for your input.
