It is easy to change the coupler if you follow the following steps:

1. Turn engine over and remove the four screws holding on the rear pilot(two on each side)

2. Remove the two screws holding on the rear scale coupler.

3. Attach the O gauge coupler to the same location.

4. Re-attach the pilot

Good luck to you!

I bought the K-Line Plymouth switcher in a set and what I did was to change the coupler on one of the ore cars.  Don't know about changing the coupler on the engine itself but would recomend using small tools and a magnifier glass.  Must have the right tools or you will go crazyEight Ball [8]

I have one and the scale couplers will mate with most of my Lionel style couplers.  I have never tried to change the couplers on mine.

Just got a K-line plymouth switcher and it came with scale couplers on it and working couplers in the box. Trying to figure out how to assemble the working ones and going NUTSCensored [censored]Censored [censored]Censored [censored] It comes with a bracket and a little coil spring that just dosen't fit. The instructions tell about everythig but the couplers. Can anyone share a pic on how it goes together? If I use the scale ones will they work with my postwar rolling stock? I plan to use it in a yard moving cars around alot. Thanks for any help.
