Reggie, in order to control a PS2 engine by TMCC, you must buy the Lionel TPC400. I have one, and use it to control my TMCC engines. I had a PS2 engine, but the board went bad, so I had a regular e-unit installed in it. Anyway, the TPC400 worked well for when I had the PS2 engine. It works well with conventional engines too.

No cannot in command mode.  You would need a TPC400 and run it in conventional.  My advice to you if you are commited to TMCC is to wait for Lionel's version due out in the next year.  It will have TMCC2 and all the goodies.  I believe I read somewhere it is also $50 cheaper.  If running TMCC is not a must or you'll invest in DCS then I would think the MTH version would be fine.

thanks i will wait for the lionel set to come out. will they have the same paint schemes, road names, and numbers. and do you have a specific date as to when they will be out

Lionel Announces the First Officially Licensed Union Pacific Heritage Collection 10/31/2006

Coming in 2007, from Lionel, the Union Pacific Heritage Collection Over the past two years, the Union Pacific has unveiled a series of locomotives that serve to honor and pay tribute to the people and railroads that have made them the leader they are today.  Each locomotive features a unique paint scheme, incorporating elements of the six major railroads that have merged with the Union Pacific.   Coming in 2007 and 2008, in cooperation with the Union Pacific, Lionel Electric Trains will commemorate this important program by offering the Union Pacific Heritage Series Collection.  This ground-breaking series will feature six SD70ACe diesel locomotives, each one painted in modern paint schemes representative of its famous fallen flag railroads:   Denver & Rio Grande Western Chicago & North Western Missouri Pacific KATY Western Pacific Southern Pacific   To complete the collection, a seventh and final locomotive will be offered in a very special paint scheme, one that will be jointly unveiled by Union Pacific and Lionel in 2008.   To further commemorate the relationship between the two legendary companies, each will be packaged with a certificate of authenticity signed by Union Pacific Chairman and CEO Jim Young and Lionel President and CEO Jerry Calabrese, and a stamped metal EMD builder’s plate with an accurate serial number and built date.   In addition, these locomotives will come equipped with Lionel’s new TMCCII LEGACY operating system and will have a suggested retail price of $449.99.   “Creating a collection like this one is the reason I’m so pleased we joined forces with the UP,” said Lionel’s Jerry Calabrese. “This collaboration will afford us unprecedented access to the Union Pacific archives and help us provide the degree of detail and authenticity our hobby expects from us.” The first offerings in the UP Heritage Collection will appear in the first 2007 Lionel catalog.
