Up until I started reading this & other forums, I had no idea that toy locomotives needed breaking in.

So, how do you do it?

i usually just run it on my line alone for a while, and then add stuff to it little by little and work it in too regular use.

I just oil up the moving parts (wheel bearings, side rods, etc.), and run 'em! As the moving parts get "broken in", performance usually increases. One note to newbies: ALWAYS prime smoke units before operating any locomotive with a smoke unit.

Lubricate, run forward about 10 min., run reverse about 10 min., and go.
