Post your track plan
Posted by nitroboy on Monday, October 30, 2006 7:01 PM
I am finalizing my layout plan, and would like to see some of your plans, just in case I see something I would have liked to have known before construction. It always works out that way for me. I get to building and laying track, and I see something on someones layout I wish I had room for on mine.

Here's my tenative plan. Three separate loops, 1st loop of 0-72 is at table hieght. There is a run that takes it up to the second level of 0-54 track and the turntable at a height of 7" from the table top. The third loop is 0-31, a simple double loop with two switches also at 7" from table top.

Let me see your plans!!!!

How do you do this? What are you using to diagram your track plan? Is there somewhere online to go to layout your layout, so to speak?

A second for Tom's "Circus" layout.  It's a great plan for a small space (it has reversing loops!).

I love reversing loops.

Dave
The layout I just finished planning.
Overall room is 14x20

Primary/Main track on 42" layout

Due to layout height runs above window sill, the view from dinning room would not be very attractive.  Therefore, going to put a oval with siding to accomodate 2 trains running in opposite directions through a diorama.  Relay controlled will alternate between trains.

Also have a couple of G scale that have been in the family for 20 years.  They will be on an elevated track suspended from ceiling.

Overall perspective from dinning room area.  (Train room is in adjacent room to dinning room)

My humble layout on a 10x6 ft space where I have to operate the layout also.

It has some switching possibilities and while switching I can run a train on the main line. The space in the middle I need to operate the layout..

I'm not sure if i did this is right...but here goes.

Here's my Christmas 2- train track plan on 4x8.

These are test switches.  I have a few 022's that are in need of cleaning, and will be added...soon?   I guess I went a little switch crazy.

Comments?

Jim,

Yes, thank-you. I'm really impressed with these layouts. And just as impressed with the software that enables one to "draft" a track plan with such detail. I'm diggin this computer age!

I have RRtrack on floppy so can't install it anymore so I have a dig pix of my printed layout. This is based on a layout in the Lionel bantam book called Model Railroading. Pretty much postwar inspired and the ability to run 3 trains on three loops and an elevated line using traditional Lionel trestle grade.

Well, this will be a good test to see if I can post anything! If it looks familar it is! Saw it in a CTT book and liked the operating aspects............ I'm wiring up the last few switches and adding some automatic non-derail control to several others......... I like that feature and need that feature!

My track plan was done after my layout was built. I sketched it on graph paper and scanned it into the computer. The alpha letters on the plan represent locations of accessories. A complete accessory list is located on my website. Click on the image below to view the full size plan.

Not sure if this will work. This layout is still in the designing stages. Most curves are 072 on an 8' x 16' fot board.

I second the where did you get it post.  I would like to get a layout program.  Do they have them on the web to download or  is it a cd-rom?  I've been doing layout ideas on paint shop but of course they are not to scale and do not help to figure how much track I'll need.

Thanks

BTW great layouts!!!!

Here it is. I think most people use this program. I have an older version and the current version seems really nice.

I use a Mac and I have played with the trial version of this software.

Take a look. It is pretty simple to learn.

Dr John-

In RRTrack, under File, select export and the plan is saved as a .bmp file.  You can then change it to a .jpg to be uploaded.

Here is my revised plan:

I would recommend a longer extension on the switchback leading to the siding in the center of the layout.  It appears to be long enough for just the engine.  You need to make it long enough for the engine and at least one car.

Here's my portable "practice" layout on a 36" wide hollow core door. It uses O-27 track with Marx metal manual switches:

Hey Dan...here's a pic of the layout after I modified it. I may connect that siding loop that dead ends to the track next to it. Not sure yet. it would give me two loops that could run simultaneously.
