Caboose problem

Welcome to the forum Lisa.  I missed this post yesterday or I could have helped you as I have that caboose.  And Buckeye is right that stack is high.  Mine got caught in my coalloader which everything else I own cleared.

Have not seen that caboose before!  Good replica of a Pennsylvania caboose with antena riggings.

Question [?]Yankees??  I thought that was a New York city baseball club!

Hi all!  Thanks for the quick and wonderful responses - I GOT IT!  I did have to remove the end railings- which were not glued just popped in.  Looks were deceiving as it appeared that just the black bottom was all that had to come off - however, there was a burgundy color strip around it that was attached to the front and rear decks.  Once I loosened the rails, it just slipped out very easily.  Ready to put it back together and haven't torn up anything!  Thanks again!

Cheif, the pic opened for me and it is the NC5 Pennsylvania Caboose.

Lisa, this one is a K-Line proudct I am not specifically familiar with. There were a number of K-Line engineers of whom I met and talked with. Chances are Bob Grubba could have had something to do with the development of this model, and he had worked at Lionel. Many of his ideas do have some origins with Lionel products. So I'm guessing, but once you get the 4 screws out from the underside of the body (which hold the body to the frame), you are probably going to have to pull lightly on the caboose end railings. I'm going to take an educated guess that these ends are glued or lock into the caboose body from the top, and somehow lock or clip into the frame from the bottom.

If one individual window is loose, it stands to reason that the caboose windows are all separate pieces. Unless there is a lip molded on to the window, you will need some very fluid glue in order to get the window back in without getting glue where you do not want to. There also stands the possibility that the window glazing simply snaps back into the body.

It wouldn't be impossible for you to fix this. Just go slowly and pay attention to how things come apart. Be aware that there is probably a smoke chimney unit in this model, probably attached to the base frame, but connected to the body in some way. there are probably figures and interior detailing in the caboose which could be broken loose too.

Take the Chief up on his offer if you guys can connect. Our pal the Chief is a good guy, and you can trust me on that one.

Hi!  I live just north of Greensboro.  Here is is picture of the caboose.  I removed the 4 small corner screws from the bottom, plus there are four more screws that I removed near the top that you get to from holes in the bottom located nest to the corner screws.  Afraid to do much prying or pulling..........

Sign - Welcome [#welcome]  Where in NC do you live?  Not familiar with that caboose.  Some are simple and you take the screws out from under the body.  Some you have to remove or move some parts [like ladders and etc to get shell off].  I suggest you look under the caboose for screws at the corners of the caboose.  If you are in the Raleigh area and do not want to tackle the repair, take it by Todd's Train Depot in Wendell and one of the guys will fix it.  Near Rolesville, bring it by and I will fix.

Caboose problem

A newbie here - I have a -K-Line Model 615 caboose.  I need to take it apart to retrieve one of the porthole windows that was pushed inside and is trapped down in the bottom.  Can someone help?  Thanks!
