I'm familiar with the pre-gloss coat for decals. The original clearly shows silvering of the decals, and that's what I was trying to recreate. As for my plating and blackening skills, I offer my services at very reasonable rates if anyone has a special project that they would like to put that extra special touch on. It really brings the old trains back to "like new" condition. I have a 2245 Texas Special that I'm working on right now for a customer. I'd like to share photos with that project once it's done, also.

Here's a tip for all would-be restorers of these great old trains. Either use a gloss paint or a gloss coat over your paint before applying decals. This will prevent silvering under the clear decal material, and will make the decal look like it's actually painted on. Once the decals are dry, a top coat of clear semi-gloss or dullcoat can be applied.

Great work!  The paint finish looks realistic. 

A few years back I paint restored an O Gauge streamlined Pennsy K4 for a coworker at my previous job after he found out that I was into trains and also good with spray equipment.  Have to admit that seeing him happy to have his childhood locomotive restored was worth working on it (which I had originally been hesitant to).

Here's part 1 of the restoration that I posted on the "other" forum. The pics are certainly worth checking out. I can do similar work to all different models. If you need parts plated or blackened, or your motor rebuilt, my rates are very reasonable. Just shoot me an email with your needs.

I finished painting and decaling last week, just finally got around to snapping a few pics this evening. Another one saved from the landfill or parts bin.
