I have most, if not all, of the Hallmark Lionel series, as my wife works at a Hallmark store. Although they are designed as ornaments, I use them strictly as display models, since many of them are smaller versions of "O" gauge engines I actually run. It is amazing to me that anyone would have the technical knowledge, and creative imagination to make them "working" models. I have no intention of doing so, but I have great admiration for anyone who does. Must be that Yankee ingenuity.

I believe the Hallmark replicas are TT scale (1/120), not N (1/160).

And the small lot of TTers left in the US love these things for just that reason.  I once considered playing with TT.  (I only went so far as to use some Maisto 1:131 [close enough for Government work] for a Navy pier diorama with a Lindberg destroyuer and minesweeper.)  Those guys are a creative and loyal bunch.  TT died in the US for all intents and purposes, but they're creating a minor resurgence of the scale, and motoring kits are available for some of the earlier Hallmark releases.

Hello Arnie,

Most of us here on this forum are into O or S gauge trains. You would do better to go to the model railroad forum.

The Hallmark Ornaments of LIONEL Locomotives and Cars are scale reproductions of Original Lionel Shells. The Original Lionel Shells are based on actual equipment. It is like a photo copy that is copied again on second photocopier, many of the details are lost or smoothed out.
