Just got williams 773

Hi you guys. I just received the scale 773 Hudson from Williams, and I must say I'm rather dissappointed because it either don't run or it goes 150 mpr. Who can enjoy an engine like that? I guess engines should all have The Odyssey System in order to enjoy them. A very fast freight (in order for it not to stop on turns) just dosen't look realistic!      Your opinions, please...........                                      Reuben

I have heard that Williams single motored engines, both steam and diesel, are rocket ships when run with a normal transformer.  One suggestion I read for better control was to run it with a Lionel TPC 300/400 and a Cab 1 in conventional mode which should slow it down.  I don't know from personal experience if this works or not but you might give it a try.  Let us know as I have some reservations about single can motored Williams engines for this very reason/

If it's stopping on turns, perhaps you need wider turns. That's a large locomotive. Also, most trains go through a break-in stage. Once the engine is run for a while, it will usually run smoother as the gears break in. Another thing to consider is proper lubrication. A dry loco will not run well at slow speeds.

Also, your expectations might be a bit too high. Williams makes excellent BASIC trains. They aren't loaded with expensive electronics like TMCC, DCS or Oddessey.  Therefore, they aren't going to, and shouldn't be expected to creep along at extremely low scale speeds.

Finally, if you're really not happy, you have 30 days to return it to Williams for a refund.

I have 2 Williams single-motored trains. A 671 and a 2023 Alco set. Both run at slow speeds with my conventional set up.

Thanks you guys (Okiechoochoo and Jaabat). Yes, I will get the TCP 400 (I've been meaning to get that set up) And I will break-in that Hudson and properly lube it. It's such a good looking engine that it's almost worth getting it just to dress up the yards. Thanks again.

I'm using a CW80 watts transformer that came with my Polar Express set I got almost 2 yrs ago. But I will be using 2- 180 watts power house bricks and a 440 watts silver track controller TCP I am sending for.

I find adding a bunch of cars (especially old ones) can help until you get your TPC in.

I have a 270 watt MRC Pure Power Dual. One can be had for ~$200 from mail order houses. Williams recommends using a power source of at least 90 watts.

I hope you get that 773 running nice. It's a beautiful locomotive.
