Made back in 1991-92. with Railsounds 1.
Highest price I have seen for these lately is 375.00. Alot of the older scale steamers are dramatically coming down in price due to the current market of new scale steamers, with much better railsounds, battery back up and of course TMCC.

The actual Chessie T1 was a repainted leased Reading T1. As for the model by Lionel, current Greenberg Guide lists it at $540.00 to $660.00. Don't know how Greenberg comes up with prices but you won't get that much maybe two thirds of Greenberg price.

Fred,
The Greenberg Guides are sold through Kalmbach Publishing, the company that puts out Classic Toy Trains magazine, and as far as I know you must buy the book for about $17.00, no website that I know of. The public library where you live may have a copy of the price guide if you live in a big city, or you can borrow a friend's copy of the Greenberg Guide.
I've never agreed with Greenburgs prices of new stuff. In most cases, the prices are much higher than what I see the stuff get at shows. Greenburg prices seem more in line with mail order houses list the items for.
Yes, your T-1 is from 1990/91. It is a good scale engine. Robust construction and reliable. It features a field wound motor, mechanical reverse, and no rubber band wheels. It is not be the greatest puller due to the slick nickle rims. It helps to roughen up the wheels with course emery cloth. Be careful not to get dust in the mechanical linkage if you decide to do this.
The prices you see here ($350 - $375) are on target. Part of the reason the bottom fell out of these engines is the paint scheme is not popular with steam fans. These engines are excellent base engines for a custom paint and detailing project.
Been looking thru the Greenberg Guide and found the Reading T-1 # 2100, Lionel # 18006, this one was made in 1989, and it lists for less than the Chessie locomotive. The Chessie was issued in 1991 according to Greenberg, not 1990 or 1992.
