Fairgrounds Meeting
Posted by MartyE on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 6:57 PM
I mentioned this in the Coffee thread but in case it gets lost there...

Does this group informally meet anywhere at the fairgrounds?  I used to meet with the TrainNet group from compuserve at the white hall fry stand but they have fallen away.

Good question, Marty.

On October 7th, a few of us from the Ohio OTTS are meeting at the Cuyahoga County fairgrounds for the NMRA train show.

Want to join us??

Hmmm... I meant the York fairgrounds but I maybe off that weekend too and might have to take you up on that offer!  Would that entitle me to one of those fancy shingles?Big Smile [:D]  Seriously I'll have to wait and see if I have the time off.  It sounds like fun!

Those "shingles" are easy to come by, if you know the right people.  Smile [:)]

As of now, I am still planning on being there also. That week, on Monday and Tuesday I will be in Grand Rapids, come home on Tues afternoon and home on Wedensday and then Thursday and Friday back up  to Grand  Raipids.

Any good train stores in Grand Rapids???

There's a Rider in GR, but trains aren't their specialty.  How are you coming up into Michigan?  The Train Barn is just south of Kalamazoo which is about 40 minutes south of GR on US 131.  There is also a very nice shop in Pinkney, just North East of Ann Arbor, off of I-94, about 12 miles north off the Baker road exit.

Thanks Chuck,

I will be going E I-90 from Ohio to Rt23 norht toI-96 east to GR. It does sounds like I might make Kakamozoo if they are open after 5:00pm. It seams so many shops have less than banker hours. I will check and see how far south the one in Ann Arbor is of I-96.

It looks like I am going to be up there every other week for the next year.

The place in Pinckney can be accessed off of US 23 as well as I-94.  The Train Barn is a "museum" as well as standard shop.

If you ever get a chance to head up 75 around Saginaw, check out Brasseur:

The "east side" of Detroit has probably two of the best shops in the area, Wild Bills and P&D.  These are about a mile apart on Groesbeck between 13 and 15 mile roads, about 8 miles south of the Lionel offices in Chesterfield Twp.
