I think I outsmarted the hound this time.

Notice the evil look on my hound after she chewed up my 3rd wooden track gauge (photo taken last year). I always try and keep it out of reach but she’s sneaky and the second I leave it laying near the tracks, she’ll grab it, run like crazy and chew it up.



So, I epoxied this dual-gauge track gauge together. Now I just hope I don’t misplace it like I do my other tools.

Just got lucky,got thekids on the school bus and went to the store.On the way their stopped at a garage sale and it was sitting in the corner bought it along with some model kits(monsters) It runs great just needed some oil, one pickup roller was missing but it works fine.The roof rattles like crazy but i figure thats it own sound system, american flyer 1.0 railsounds!

Found at a local garage sale with track and 75watt transformer for 10 bucks!

 

Wow what a find.  All I ever see at grarages sales is rusty old track and busted up stuff.  Great find.

I've seen those Ace cars - I think they were part of a train - and other items - shorty tank cars come immediately to mind - reviewed in CTT, David. I think you could find Bob's reviews on this website. Because of the exchange rate, they are breathtakingly expensive (to me). They're tin-plate.

Forgot to mention. Those red O gauge passenger cars that I posted above that look like Marx are actually metal cars made by a British firm called Ace.

The valves have been set and my Ruby live-steamer is ready for a compressed air test this week to fine-tune valve adjustments and eccentrics.



Yes indeed, this is O Gauge on dual-gauge track. And, live steam. I took the photo Saturday at Purcellville, Va. The meet convinced me to do duel-gauge track on part of my planned phase 2 layout, which I started on Sunday.



I officially started phase 2 of my layout, as you can see I’m getting ready to assemble a switch, I’m making from cedar. It will be duel gauge (see Gauge 1 switch next to it for comparison). My ties are ½ inch wide. Yes, it’s big b/c it is 7/8 inch scale. The gauge 1 represents 2-foot and the O gauge represents 18 inch gauge. Rails are code 332 brass, which translates out to 90 lbs rail. A bit heavy for light industrial railroad I’ll be modeling but occasionally used. I haven’t yet spiked anything but you can see the rails will look right at home on the ties. Battens are under the ties to provide stability in the ballast so when BB the beagle charges over the track, it will stay anchored.





At the live-steam meet on Saturday, one of the founding members of 7/8” scale Steve King, brought his 2 locomotives. See how they dwarf the track! The rear steam loco is not yet completed (scratchbuilt), so the lead steam loco is pulling it (live steam)



Here’s another 7/8” scale loco, dwarfing the nearby Daylight. Don’t know who owns this



The man himself, Steve King. He was nice to answer the million questions I had. He’ll have his own live steam open house next month in Roanoke, which I’ll attend. BTW, his live steam loco was the loudest at the meet and garnered the most attention (along with the O gauge live steamer). During one belch, a lady standing nearby jumped 2 feet.

Our one and only grandchild, the center of our universe, has his first birthday a week from this coming tuesday. I had planned on building a rocking horse but his grandmother picked out a set of plans that requires me to pull an MTH/Lionel and push out delivery til Christmas. Oh well, that's what grampas are for.

Wow, what a weekend for the Roger's Corners Train Festival. 

Starting on Saturday, Greg and his wife and son drove all the way from N.E. Ohio to visit the Baltimore, Ohio and Wabash Railroad.  We had a great time talking trains.

Today, Chuck and his lovely wife paid us a visit and we together visited several of the Garden RR layouts in Central Ohio.  Here are some of the photos of what we saw.
