Here's a variation at low tide (different scale, outside, but applications to 3-rail indoor apparent)

I I saw this on the carendt website. Simple idea and simple construction. I could see something like this for a Halloween layout. This layout uses a Bachmann On30 trolley that operates back and forth automatically. A Lionel trolley could be used as well. Click on picture to enlarge.
