Customizing material: Das Pronto
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 18, 2003 11:03 PM
I'm not sure if anyone is using this stuff but it works GREAT!

Das Pronto is a polymer clay that dries good enough to be sanded and easy enough to sculpt with fingers or tools. I used it to customize action figures. If you rough the application it will look like cement. Be sure to spray paint it. Latex will only add a thin layer thus reducing the effect.

It also holds a spray primer that will make an oil based metallic color look fantastic.

Also, Radio Shack is carrying a handy supply of miniature lights that can easily be customized for small billboards, buildings, etc.

Funny how model railroading turns us all into artists one way or another!

Cheers,
Jim

GREAT! Thanks for the tip! I'm off to Michael's tomorrow!

BTW, For building mountains, I used Crayola MODEL MAGIC. It is lightweight, flexible, and drys soild enough to paint. It is so lightweight I used it over "plastic canvas" that stuff they use to make coasters etc out of. Give it a shot! See Alan Miller's book on begining model railroading. He outlines the entire process.

Boy did I get some funny looks when I asked for that! No one here (AZ) has ever heard of it. Super Sculpey I believe is the preferred choice. ???????

The only thing I can gather about Das is that the website is:

www.fila.it

If you are adept at Italian you will be able to navigate through the site (which I couldn't).

Try Michael's again. It comes in white and earthtone. The packaging is primarily white and red (look for the cherry red on the package).

Aptly named "DAS".

Funny, in German das means "that".

Good luck!
