Daughter just returned from Costa Rica on a volunteer medical mission so I'm awake.

This isn't a train but I thought it looks kinda cool. The Silver Diner and sunrise, taken about a week ago in Woodbridge, Va.

Well after 10 days of constant rain, I decided to paint some foam board, put the ping pong table on the Brunswick and pull out the orange boxes...

took an old typewriter table to set up a "control stand"...

the two loops are isolated so it is possible to crossover from loop to loop...

but during lunch the operator was distracted by his roast beef sandwich and the following incident occured...

the Polar Express failed to notice the red switch stand and crossed over to the main line!

the Beechcraft was unharmed and the operator was taken in for a pee test.  Have a great Sunday!

Today my wife and I celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, which considering we didn't meet until we were 28 is a fairly good record of longevity.  For an anniversary gift she gave me one of Rudy Russo's  fantastic scratchbuilt water tanks.  An ongoing gift is the fact she's let me spread over 200 feet of Fastrack, buildings, vehicles, figures, trains and scenery over our living room for the past year and a half. Hopefully, by this time next year I'll have moved it all to a shop building.  Anyway, here's a shot of the tank in a temporary spot on the layout.

highrailjon  -  the tank is  indeed all wood and is one of the finest pieces of craftsmanship I've seen..  The picture doesn't do it justice.  I haven't figured how to post a link  (just barely computer literate) but the address is:   artguy@netscape.com    Well, maybe I can post a link.  He has a brochure you can download that shows  half a dozen or so different tanks that he makes.

Hi Guys,

Great pics, Thought I would post a couple of pics from a holiday we took to France a few years back. They show my two favorite hobbies, trains and classic carsSmile [:)]

My wife and I took the SNCF Motorail service overnight from Calais to Avigon. And then drove from Avigon to our hotel just outside of Monaco.

Here is my 1981 DeLorean having a ride.

I must not have listened well last week.  The Ghost of Christmases past visited me again last night!  He took us back to 1999 this time.  He reminded me, again, to smile and enjoy! Big Smile [:D]

John and ZWBOB, you might see, if you look real hard on the left edge in the middle picture (or click on it to enlarge it), that the milk man made it to my neighborhood that morning too!!!  Big Smile [:D]

Jon,

Didn't know you had an outdoor layout too! I love the weathering job on the dozer btw. And kids look like they're having fun too.

I'm getting ready to build my second outdoor layout, a Gauge 1 7/8" scale quarry line; that's 1:12; with a live steam Ruby kit I'm going to kitbash to 1:12 by raising the cab and stack and body.

Seems there are a couple of us on this forum with indoor and outdoor interests.

Nice pictures of the 844, too !! How about the fireman there with his cell phone !! I notice the crews today on the trains are all on cell phones !!

Reggie,

I love unit trains. You have the containers for the Gundersons?

===================

The wood water tower on the previous page was one of the best I've ever seen.

Great pictures all,

Reggie, Nice to see you have made some real progress on your layout.  Only problem is I had to turn my monitor on it's side to see the first picture.Big Smile [:D]

Those 15 diecast hoppers must be a pretty good load, at least it looks like level going, no big hills.

It looks like you have your fast track attached right to the plywood, how is the noise level?

fj and g: i love them too as you can tell and no i dont have the containers as they cost $25 a pop. i think tahts a little to much but i will eventually get them.

zwbob: well i've hooked all of those cars the gunderson and the 2 bay hoppers on the one train and that sd80mac has no problem pulling all of those cars at once. so you can say that the magnitraction is great. well i hope you mean that the wheels get their traction through some type of magnetic draw from the wheels. if so let me tell you that the engine tires have 2 rubber wheels on each truck to help with traction

jefelectric: sorry for making you turn your computer to a different angle thats the only way i could get that whole train in the picture at once. well the gundersons are die cast too and they actually weigh more than the 2 bay hoppers. and yes the whole layout has no hills as of now so the train is running on a level surface all the way around the layout. the noise level is to where you can tolerate it its not that loud unless i have the train running at full blast and if i do have it at full blast you can still hear the whistle and horn over the noise with the volume level of the train at its lowest. plus i like the sound it gives the feel that something massive is coming and passing by as you get the feeling of a real train passing by.

You might be able to make the containers yourself out of resin casting. Getting to master mold right would be the challenge. Then you could make a bunch of copies

where do you get this resin casting i might try and make one to see how it goes/comes out. i new in this hobby as to making things out of scratch much less building a layout for the first time and it being the size of mine. i didnt know what i was getting myself into until a started building  this thing.
