Railsounds - help
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, August 3, 2006 5:24 PM
I have an older Lionel GP 9 NYC with railsounds. Not tower com or crewtalk. Can I upgrade this loco to have this without adding expensive boards? Is it possible to Flash it up?

Georgia Railroad,

Welcome to the forumSign - Welcome [#welcome]  This group should be able to help you with your question.  I don't have any command items and am not sure.  I would think that you would need the boards, but again, not sure.  Do you live in GA?  Myself and several others on this forum are from GA.  I think we have more people here than train stores in this state.

Sounds are stored on a socketed chip.  You will need a chip puller to swap chips and will need to note the orientation of the chip. You can replace the chip with a different one.  Contact Ed Bender of Digital Dynamics about possible alternative chips.

GeorgiaRR,

Have you done a TMCC  reset yet?  I have some older engines with first or second generation TMCC/Railsounds that occasionally lose sound, the reset fixes them every time.  Good Luck.

Original sound sets did not have TowerCom/Crew Talks.  These features were added later.
