I just finished restoring a 3559.  The wires from the solenoid in the car are soldered  to the contact springs that touch the shoe on each truck.  One wire goes to one truck, and the other wire goes to the other truck.  The couplers are connected  to the shoe contact springs.  They shouldn't require attention unless the coil has been damaged.  If you would like any info on the 3559, or how I restored mine, feel free to send me an e-mail.  I would be glad to help you with the restoration.

Have a basket case 3559 Lionel Dump Car I want to restore.  Question is how does one rewire it to make the couplers and dump bin work?
