The Superman Train Layout
Posted by lionelsuperotrack on Friday, July 7, 2006 9:22 PM
Borrowed this from another group. This is OUTSTANDING!! Life is not "Super O" or FasTrack alone!

From the new Superman movie, the model train layout. Hopefully the link works for you as it does for me:

Navigate through the set by clicking the image and dragging to the left
[any direction -RWZ] (counter-clockwise). Audio commentary by production
designer Guy Hendrix Dyas.

Very best, Mike

Impressive layout. I will not pay to see this movie, sorry, I don't care to have them refer to the "American Way" as "All That Stuff". Would love to see the trains running, but I will have to wait.

Thanks for the Link.

I'll wait for the movie to come out in DVD so I can enjoy the Marklin layout (since I'm a big-time Marklin fan).

I will not support the movie in its first run, although I'm sure many people will because they just don't care much about American traditions and values. I prefer to remember the Superman I grew up with in the comincs and on TV (as well as the earlier movies). I'll leave the politically correct Superman to the new generations who, at the rate things are going, are probably going to need a real-life version soon enough.

It's a movie not an election.

I would think most people don't even know the quote you guys are so upset about. I've heard it before but had no idea it was associated with Superman I thought it was an older saying. If anything I would think it more offensive for it to be coming from a fictional cartoon character. I mean come on, this is no Partrick Henry or other historic Patriotic Orator's quotation here. It was made in the 50's for a TV show jingle.

My understanding is that it was only in the black and white TV show and not the comics anyway. It was probably a mistake to even mention it. An attempt to reach out to the old TV fans. Others will miss the reference anyway.

I like the idea of a movie with a cool layout in it. I will go see it.

Hop on the Hate bandwagon that'll show em.

What way would they prefer?

I can offer some suggestions...

emmaandy:

No politics involved and certainly no hate. Just an observation about an American icon that once represented the best in human values (even if he was something other than human in the conventional sense) but who, like so many other icons and traditions, has fallen victim to political correctness (which, by the way, has nothing to do with politics in that same conventional sense).

But your reaction to any mention of such things is probably typical these days, so it's no real surprise or reason to get terribly upset. I'm sure you'll enjoy the action-packed film, the train layout, and even its destruction. After all, that's the kind of fare many folks seek these days.

Enjoy the flick, and happy railroading!

Yeah, there are a few jarring events in this movie for fans of the old television show and those who read the comics in the paper or in older comic books. Lois is an unwed mother, the dog jokes (which I thought were funny), Clark runs to the nearest bar for a beer when he finds out Lois has a live-in boyfriend, the inability of the filmmakers to follow through with something so simple as "the American way" cannot be excused, because they are the ones who brought it up. They could have left that totally out of the pic, or edited it out for the foreign distribution, etc. Since they did it, they made it an issue for me, and everyone I saw the movie with also got hung up on that little line.

The train set was VERY cool!

Lois an unwed mother? Oh, the travesty of it all! Seems like nothing is sacred in the minds of the folks who created this incarnation. I'll definitely wait for the DVD.

By the way: No real toy trains were harmed in the destruction of the layout. All the messed-up stuff was created in the shops out of wood and other materials.[;)]

We saw the movie on opening weekend with our youngest son (27) and we really enjoyed it. This is a movie that needs to be seen on the big screen along with big speakers. I believe the majority of the audience were adults, not many kids.

I do remember seeing the Christopher Reeves 70's movies(it was the first I saw in a theater to date myself). I remember in one of them Supes got smashed in a bar and started melting the mirror in the bar back with his heat vision or do you not remember that.

He is a fictional character in stories written by 100's of different writers since the 40's. There are only so many stories about an invicible do gooder that people will read/watch. Character flaws lead to drama. In the 40's he couldn't fly only jump. As it went on he was rewritten to be more and more invincible. By the 60's readers were bored because he was so invincible no villain could stop him so his Kriptonite flaws came out.

As for that "controversial"quote, who has inner monologs that sound so self rightious. "I'm going in my car to the grocery store in the pursuit of all that is right in the world...." Sounds like someone has a Superman Complex(see Freud).

Oh and as far as being PC, in one of the Chris Reeves movies Superman decides he is better than all Earth governments and decides to take away all Nukes and throw them into the sun. He even takes away the ones owned by the US.

Being so upset about not him saying something the correct way seems like being overly sensitive and "PC" to me. Oh and if you wait for the DVD they will still get some of your money on it rental or otherwise.

I can run faster than a speeding locomotive if it costs over $500 and is flying off the edge of the layout.

I like the bit about him standing for truth but having to lie about who he is with an alter ego.

I also love being lectured about the American way by people waving a flag that stands for separation from and war against America.
