"I finally found a site where people just want to talk about scale model trains without conflict!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

In all honesty Roy, once in awhile there is some conflict here too. The key factor is that there is a slant here not on "scale model trains" but just on toy trains be they scale or MARX tinplate whimsy or traditional 0/027.

Certainly the well documented lawsuits help this hobby little nor contribute to any sense of industry unity or forum comradarie. But the typical adult train modeler today has become spoiled rotten to the core by having every one of their whims and product desires answered by an industry that seems deadset on risking everything to appease the smallest group of modelers. K-Line went out of business from making scale relicas, not from making affordable toy trains - which they spent the bulk of their succesful run doing and doing well.

All the various industry heads have ALL said there needs to be growth in reaching newcomers and youth. Unfortunately this means putting a backseat on the scale technological development (that has hurt this hobby as much as helped it) and put a all-out concerted effort on affordable repica trains that are more toy than priceless collectible or prototypical duplication.

If you want to interest a family in toy trains, you can't show them a current catalog. You need to show them a postwar or MPC-era catalog. The new catalogs mostly scare them off with the 90%-10% slant in the direction of expensive scale replicas.

You'll find all sorts of opinions on this forum too. And we have our share of blind brand allegiance voices. You'll find voices in favor of postwar Lionel and other voices in favor of modern technology and voices in favor of both. BUT there is definitely much more of an appreciation here for the TOY element of the hobby as any other.

Which includes MARX, which you will find garnishes a great deal of respect here. The original MARX company in their own right was as much an innovator as Lionel was in their own way.

If you have an interest in Marx trains here are 2 informative guides about Marx trains I have written that you will enjoy. You can find some very affordable and available electric trains and learn a bit about them:

Roy,
This is a great site. Like Brian suggested, sometimes we do differ on opinion, but we can do it in a respectful way. Every once in awhile, you will see someone jump on another and if you look, they hardly have any posts to their credit. Mostly, we choose to ignore them and they tend to go away. So, you will find this a freindly, very helpful and often a very interesting forum.
