Layout for Grandson
Posted by Sturgeon-Phish on Sunday, June 25, 2006 10:17 PM
Our Grandkids are crazy about trains. As motivation to become potty trained, I promised my grandson a layout of his own when he went a week without an accident. Well, he did his part and I did my part. Using American Flyer equpiment, I made a simple circle in an oval with manual switches on a 4x6 osb with indoor outdoor carpet / grass. He saw it for the first time yesterday. The expression on his face was priceless. We ran just an engine for two hours straight!. His layout fits on top of a bed that tucks nicely under my layout. Now he has his own layout, and it makes a pretty good test track for post maintenance testing!
The bed under the layout is part of an agreement I made with my very understanding wife. I got a spare bedroom to use as a trainroom as long as it could be used for a spare bedroom. Now just roll the bed out, take off the little layout and your ready to sleep!
One of these days I'll get some pics to post.

Hello Jim- Sounds like a wonderful idea for your spare bedroom. I bet your grandson looks forward to every visit at your house. Take Care.

Sounds like good motivation. I'll have to remember that for my son in a couple of years.

yeah, I went thru a year of potty training by beagle. Promised her a layout.

Built it and she's potty trained; avoiding the tracks outside, thank goodness@!

Dave What a pooch! That face is just so full of personality. Looking at her pictures makes me grin.
