Dual-gauge crossover?

My plan is to use traditional lionel steel O-27 and Bachmann EZ-track. However I have no problem using whatever is easiest to do the Job.

That being said... I think I will take the advice to use an elevated crossover instead. Thank you everyone for your help.

Very useful that page is, but some of the wiring may be more complicated than zigg probably needs. The demonstration of the gapping positions is really good.

It does bring up a question: zigg, are you using Bachmann EZ track for your On30; plain, old HO brass or NS sectional; PECO or Micro Engineering flextrack, or handlaid?

Joe Rampolla has built an O27/HO crossing (he animates his cars by putting HO mechanisms in them and burying HO track in his streets). Details are here:

For info, try http://www.oldpullmanmodelrailroads.com/index.html They also sell components that might help. You imply that you're using 027 tubular track. For the crossover, you'll probably find it useful (and maybe necessary) to transition to Atlas. You can make the necessary gaps in the rails by cutting with a Dremel cut-off wheel (use eye protection) and filling them (where necessary) with bits of plastic filed to shape. You'll have to wire power to each rail separately, but that's not a bad idea anyway.

I have heard of hand laid track and think that is what you will need to do. Not sure where
to get information on the subject.

I have never seen one of these, but I suppose it is possible. I think the biggest problem would be making the gap in the HO track. Let us know your progress. I would probably go for a trestle of some sorts.

Does anyone know where I can get information on how to get or build a O-27/On3 crossover? I am trying to create a dual gauge layout and need to cross the On3 (ie HO) gauge track over a O-27 loop. Or am I just dreaming?
