repainting Lionel Rs3
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 9:05 AM
hey gang!
i have a Lionel rs-3 diesel from somewhere around 1990. it's painted for union pacific, when i bought it i was realy into having as many different roadnames as oi could. these days i am trying to keep it mostly east coast roads. what i would really like to do is have this loco repainted for LIRR. i want the gray with orange paint scheme and i would love to even have the "dashing commuter" logo on the cab like i've seen in pictures.
does anybody know where i can send it to have this done and a good guess as to about how much something like this would cost?

Check out Jeff Sohn at Jeff's Custom Train Painting. I haven't used him yet, but I hope to in the near future.

If the link works, you can review many examples of his work.

You might also want to check out the new Lionel C-420 in the exact colors you are talking about. It will blow you away.
What were you planning on pulling with that RS-3? Hopefully someday, someone will come out with some ping-pong coaches!!

i've seen the c-420, i really like them i'd like to pick one up this summer. as of right now i plan on pulling a set of 4 lirr heavyweights i picked up from lionel at the begining of this year. they are the brown ones from last years catalog. i want to add the new MTH lirr express milk car that just came out and also there is a really nice Weaver lirr baggage car coming out in the fall that i would love to get. i think all together they should make up a pretty cool looking consist that would look good with either a diesel or a steam loco.

In the early 70's, the LIRR ran a mix of used coaches from a bunch of different railroads. I think I might go that route with my C-420. I'd really like to get my hands on a Railking Dashing Dan caboose.
