How about a smoke unit from a parts engine? Wire direct to tracks and add smoke fluid.

Chuck,
Did you ever see the film on that raid? Pretty increadible in that one group got lost and one group flew right to the target. When the first group realized the mistake, they corrected and flew to the target, but from a different course. The two groups criss/crossed across the target and totally confused the Germans. The Germans thought it was some spectacular flight plan. Certainly were the "Greatest Generation"

Scroll down about half way:

"But the heart of the diorama's effectiveness is the smoke and fire. Eight dense black columns rise nearly four feet, higher than the aircraft. To achieve this, polyester teddy bear stuffing was dyed on the stove. Still only grey, the stuffing was threaded onto brass armatures and sculpted. Each column was then heavily misted with flat black spray paint."

Try some gray foam and some spray paints. I've seen the HO guys do this trick.

Smoke form factory smokestack

I've got a few buildings on my layout with smokestacks that I'd like to have the image of smoke coming out of them. I'd like a "dirty" smoke look. I tried cotton, but I'm not satisfied. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time!
