Fastrack Remote Switch Problem Solved
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 10, 2006 4:36 PM
I've had two cases of Fastrack remote 036 switch problems. In both cases, the switch was erratic and wouldn't switch completely. I initially thought the switch mechanism was binding, but, as I discovered, it's a design flaw that is easily rectified.

Remove the bottom cover. There are a dozen or more small screws holding it on that require a jewelers phillips screwdriver to unscrew. Near the circuit board a green wire with a 0.110 female connector connects to a tab. Underneath this connector is a metal tab that holds the rail to the Fastrack switch plate. If the shrink sleeve insulation on the green wire connector isn't just right, the connector shorts to the tab on the Fastrack switch plate when the bottom cover presses against the wires.

The fix is simple: put a small piece of electrical tape between the connector and the tab on the switch plate. Unplugging the connector isn't required, just gently bend it up a little with a small screwdriver so the electrical tape can slide in between.
