Hmm, I wonder now if that set may have been Marx's response to the Blue Comet. If he looked over his shoulder and saw that the other companies' Blue Comets were selling well, making a blue Mercury loco with a blue tender and passenger cars wouldn't have been very expensive since he was already doing them in red. Just change the ink and use the same plates. Marx loved to do stuff like that.

Too rich for my blood, but the last time I saw a restored Lionel Blue Comet in O gauge for sale, the asking price was higher than that, and it sold quickly.

I'm drooling! I've always wanted one of those sets! (Mainly because that's one of my favourite colours. I'm a sucker for any matching passenger set in blue. A bit steep for my pockets, but I suppose it is cheaper than an original Lionel Blue Comet or Blue Streak.)
