Layout progress (Pics)
Posted by darianj on Sunday, June 4, 2006 3:38 PM
Hello everyone. Just wanted to share a few pics of my layout process so far. The layout is 6 X 10. It's pretty empty for now, but I was hoping to get a few ideas to help fill it up.....cheaply for now. I'm basically going for a more urban look. Any critiques or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking!(Pay no attention the the junk in my basement!)[:)]

Mistake No. 1...being to lazy to build a good bench....this didn't last long. I came to my senses and fixed it right.

Mistake No.2...letting the table get to junky!...Notice that my car carrier not only derailed, but just fell right over (blue car...left side)

OK...So let's start over and do everything right.....
Step 1...Build the frame right! Yes, I still have a lot of junk around, but at least the frame is sturdy now. Besides, that's were I'm gone to store my boxes anyway.

Skip to today...This is how everything looks now.
A 2 lane street will go in front of the buildings:

One of a few gateways:

This is the area that needs help...What else can I do besides a loop?

A veiw from and of the small train yard:

Here is the Erie Triplex and Polar Express in the train yard.

I plan on adding 1 more switch for another line:

Last...but not least, the control center:

I wasn't sure if I was going to get a DCS system, but I guess I'll need one if I'm going to keep 2 or 3 trains on the layout.
Thanks for taking the time to check it out! [:)]

Well darianj at least you learned and it looks like your on the right track. I am just starting out my layout also. 3 pieces of 4x8 plywood in a U configuration. I am building two very large trestles on it and so far it has taken me 3.5 weeks and I am only 50% done with the trestles. What the heck, its fun.

Darianj,

One thing, besides a elevated line would be to put a small spur off the center loop on the opposite side of the current switches and have it serve a dairy factory with a milk platform, or some other industry.

Good luck,
Dennis

This is a quick plan I came up with for your urban layout. Lots of people to move in the city so there will be alot of station stops. Good luck but most of all have fun![:)][:)]

don't be discouraged. I've been working on my layout (link to it in my sig line) for nearly seven months - doing something just about everyday - and I still am one the first of three levels.

I would scrap the loop in favor of some sidings for trackside industries.
