Removing Stickers From Marx

I've found Goo Gone to work fine in most applications. I have tried Goof Off on stubborn problem areas and have had limited success. Goof Off does remove the residue but it dulls the surface. A quick buff seems to bring the shine back somewhat. I suspect Goof Off is an alcohol based product due to it’s highly flammable.

What really puzzles me is why anyone would place a sticker on the Litho to begin with!

I would use an oil-based cleaner rather than alcohol. Alcohol will do a very nice job of removing the sticker, but I'm afraid of what it might do to the lithography. I've heard (second or third hand) of Marx items being damaged by alcohol. Not all colored inks react the same way, so what's safe for one car might not be for another one. Third-hand testimonies are next to worthless, I know, but I would be afraid to try it, unless I had an identical junker piece to test on first.

I've used Goo Gone and WD-40 to remove stuff like that. It's slower than alcohol would be, but it's pretty safe. Wipe it on, let it soak in, and scrub it away gently with a cotton swab. Vegetable oil is an interesting suggestion. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I haven't tried it. Be patient and work slowly.

I've been told that vegetable oil can sometimes remove residue from tape and pricing stickers.

well, as the dr. mentioned do start with warm water and a mild detrgent,but as far as the sticky residue rubbing alcahol will remove it with little to no resistance without damaging the integrity of the litho. hope this helps

If the stickers are still there, I'd start with a mild water and dishwashing liquid solution to wet the sticker. Use your fingernail to gently remove the sticker. Dry the area, then follow with some Goo-Gone or other citrus based cleaner to remove the rest of the residue. Work slowly, being careful not to scratch the lithographed surface.

Hi guys,
I recently purchased a few Marx tin items that have price stickers on them.
Anyone have a way to remove them without leaving a sticky residue,or harming
the lithographed sides?
