Lionel Hot Box Reefer

I received my “hot box” car from the 2006 Lionel catalog last night. I put it on the tracks this afternoon. What a blast! Ot rolls along nice and quiet and suddenly starts screeching and small LEDs light up. Smoke starts as small wisps. The entire truck turns into a full bore smoke generator when the spindles really heat up with flashing LEDs and a loud screeching noise. It takes A LOT of smoke fluid to get it started but once it is “filled up” and you stop “to put out the fire” there is solid smoke between the front of the trailing car, smoke is pouring out from beneath the truck – terrific effects.

The car also has crew dialog while you are running. It is the conductor from the caboose talking about the “view from the crows nest” and "wake me when we get there". If you are looking for something new this one is definitely a lot of fun.

Pretty sweet. Regarding the ACL engine, is it an Atlas SW8?

Yes, the ACL is an Atlas SW8. I had it TMCC upgraded by Train America. It is a great engine.

FWIW, I offer (The Electric Railroad Co) a TMCC upgrade for this car. It is a nice feature to be able to turn it of from the CAB-1.
