Did you search on Ebay for "Mar", or for "Marx", the actual name of the company? The second posting on this topic explains this common error.

I know this is a train site but I'm researching the value of a Mar Toy Co. Wind-Up Race car. Any suggestions where I might look? I didn't find anything similar on Ebay.

The Marx cars closed at 31.99 for all 10. I guess that's not bad considering they weren't in the best condition.

I'm all done with model trains now..as far as I know..I have some full scale railroad stuff up though
I just want to thank you again for all your help.

I took your advice and added it to the description. It already has a bid but if the bidder isn't happy, they can retract it.

Thanks again...you've been a Godsend.

I decided to hang on the the track and transformers and put them in a yard sale in Nov. The two boxes are pretty heavy, and as you said, they aren't worth much so wouldn't be good on ebay.

It will be interesting to watch the Marx cars...on ebay, you never know what will happen.

It looks good, but you should mention that the Southern Pacific caboose has had Lionel trucks put on it and the ladder added.

Thank you for the compliment..and the new information. I'll go add that to the description right now. Whatever people decide to do, I want it to be based on accurate information.

You know..when I was doing the group picture I noticed the coupling was different on the tank car and even tried to hook it to another car. Not knowing what I was doing, I just shook my head and said that there must be a reason for it. Now I understand.

Now to get myself geared up to do the Marx cars..there are a lot more of them. Whew..

It looks good! You did an excellent job of describing them. There's one thing you should add, however, that I didn't notice in the original picture you showed. The tank car has had it trucks (sets of wheels) changed and instead of the original Lionel ones it has had American Flyer S gauge trucks with link couplers put on. I'm sure that most would notice this right away, but I still would mention it as it detracts from the car's value.

Hi everyone...I finally got around to writing up some of the train cars...the Lionel ones. I wanted to get the Marx on too but I seem to keep putting it off. The Lionel should start tonight (Friday) and run for 10 days. If any of you see any mistakes I made please feel free to let me know. I didn't gussy up the descriptions as I don't want to mislead anyone. Unless I didn't pay close enough attention, I only found 4 Lionel cars out of the bunch. Anyway..in for a penny, in for a pound.

Thanks for all your help.

A low starting price may not be a bad idea. I wouldn't put the the full value as the minimum. The values I quoted you on these items are the official book values, however, I don't think that your cars will sell for the full prices I mentioned. You should get a good price on them, though. If you look under O Scale: Marx you will find that there are an awful lot of cars listed individually and while most of them have low prices on them, almost no one is bidding on them. Big lots are the way to go. There is much more interest in them. I also wouldn't recommend that you put in a reserve. Often a reserve will scare people away from bidding on an item unless it's something that's extremely desireable and valuable. When you list something on ebay what it sells for can be hard to say. It all just depends on how many people want to bid on it that day. One week, something might sell for far below it's value and another wekk it could sell for a very high price. You just never know until the end. Good luck in selling your trains and may they go for a good price!
