progress on my first layout
Posted by beefmalone on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 10:50 PM
ok i cheated a little bit and bought a 5x8 table someone else already laid track, wiring, and ballasted. NOW I understand why everyone says to use homasote to keep down the noise...it gets LOUD!

Here's a 24mb movie for those of you with fast connections.

All the buildings are just things I've been accumulating. I have 3 other tables I'm trying to figure out how to integrate. Two of them are 3' square and the other one is 5'x30". The problem is they're all about 6 inches lower than the big table. I'm trying to decide if I should just cut the legs or maybe put in a waterfall or something to make the step down. :?:

Couple more pics...pardon the mess. 8)

This layout is more toy-oriented, but I'd prefer a little more realism. I'd really rather be running my supersnap track anyway, but I just can't bring myself to rip up all that ballasted & prewired track since I wouln't know the first thing about redoing all of it.

So add more realism. You're off to a great start with what you have. Now add some industries and "natural" scenery like trees and rocks. This is how everyone's layout looks at some point. The sky's the limit as to how far you take it.

Those other tables could be used as-is as a lower level with one partially under the one in these photos to create a tunnel.

you think it makes a bunch of racket in the video you should hear it in person! :D I just shot the movie on my digital camera and uploaded it to a website.

I was thinking maybe getting some trestles to drop down to the level of the other tables if I went that route. I'll probably just leave it "toylike" for now. I do have a bunch of trees to add that came with it along with some other buildings. First problem...one of the switches throws one way but not the other. Any ideas?
