I would like to thank everyone for their help. I tried Goo Gone as Dennis suggested, and with some scrubbing the red paint came off leaving the green paint intact. Thanks for the help.

A friend and I removed some paint spots from a prewar AF passenger car with WD-40 and a kitchen scouring pad. We sprayed WD-40 on the pad and carefully rubbed over the paint, trying to avoid hitting the good paint as much as possible. It worked pretty well for us, but it was a slow process.

you can also try toluene, goo gone, cleaners like this should help, but don't over saturate the area as the green paint could come off too.

I'd leave it as is. The accessory isn't minto even if it didn't have the red paint spots. But if you really must remove them, try this.

Heat the area SLIGHTLY with a hair drier until it's warm, then try scraping the paint off with a credit card (use it like a putty knife). The credit card has rounded corners and is plastic, which will not gouge the green paint. I've had good luck using this method. Latex paint removes the easiest.

That will be $5.00 please. [;)]

Does anyone know how I could remove red paint spots from the base of a 45N gateman? I would like to remove the red paint without harming the green paint. I wiped the accessory down with Ivory soap on a damp rag. This removed the dust, but the red paint remained. Here is a link to some pictures of my gateman: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lionel-45N-Automatic-Gateman-Works-125A_W0QQitemZ6053862576QQcategoryZ4146QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The red paint spots are in the lower right corner on the front side of the base. As always, any info would be appreciated.
