Lionel Post War Gang Car Value
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 7, 2006 8:27 PM
Hi All,

Can anyone advise me of the approximate value of a post-war Lionel Gang Car, the old classic bumper car made of orange and blue plastic materials? I recently took mine in for repair and the shop owners apparently "lost it" during a move to their new store.

Thanks!

if it had blue bumpers, it's in the $30-40 range, and that's pretty generous, as these had a tendency to get beat up.

If it had grey bumpers, it is a much more elusive Type I, in which case the values I have seen are in the $300 range.

Thanks Frank 53 for the quick reply! Mine was an old model and pretty beat up but I inherited from my Dad after he passed away so it had sentimental value.

Best regards.

I would suggest that the price is less of an issue than convenience. Tell them to replace it. They should be able to aquire one at a reasonable cost and make sure that it has good brushes and runs well.

Ed,

I would make sure that the owner of the shop either gives you what the gang car is worth, or buys you another one that is at least as nice as the one you brought in for repair. I really don't think that your gang car was "lost", I think that he kept it for himself or sold it to someone. If he refuses to do anything, threaten to take legal action. That might change his mind. If you would like to find another gang car on your own, ebay is your best bet. I would not spend more than $50 on a car with blue bumpers. Let us know what happens.
