The most recent MTH catalogs details an optional PSP, Performance Service Plan (i.e. extended warranty). However, neither my dealer nor the website has any information on this program. Is anyone aware of it? Do you know what the cost is? While I normally disdain extended warranties, I was thinking, depending upon cost, an extended warranty may not be a bad thing for my MTH engines.

Does anyone have any info?

They list it on page 175 of the 2006 vol 1 catalog.

IT does not list the cost. [:(] I seam to recall something like $180 for the 3 years, but could be wrong. I didn't fell it was worth it personally.

Send them an e-mail and ask how much it is for your engine. [;)]

Well, my expended warranty for my iPod was $90 (for a second year) and for my Mac $190. Guess it depends on your point of view.

Extended warranties in general are a bad idea. The company has your money in case something goes wrong. Then you read the fine print and you still wind up paying something.

I hate extended warranties. You get them and don't need them. When you Don't get them, that's when you do need them.

I received an e-mail back from MTH. To get an extended warranty on my S2 Turbine (MSRP $449.00) the cost would be $80.00. To me, that is just a little too much for the extra protection. If the cost were closer to $40.00, I may have purchased it.

Here's a question: If the price of the train was increased from $449 to $519, but it came with a four year warranty, would you be more or less likely to purchase the unit? I really like the new electronics that are in MTH and Lionel engines. However, I am a little suspect of making a purchase based on some of the horror stories I have seen on these boards. Having a four year warranty would make the products that much more appealing.

Also, I think it is bad business to make the consumer pay for shipping to the factory. If an authorized repair facility cannot make the repair, I should not have to pay the postage. Your thoughts?
