What you are seeing in that photo is a badly aligned rubber traction tire.

Looks like the pilot is also smashed and partially broken on that loco. That loco has had a hard life!

Hi, On page 41 of the May 2006 issue, the 4-6-4 Hudson's rear drive wheel appears to have a flange on the outside of the wheel (the portion on the rail at least). Am I seeing this correctly? Thanks, Tom
