Here is my son at the helm of our little basement layout:



After successfully making a second table, we are now trying to create a layout. Whatever we come up with, at least we already have an engineer! [;)]

Hello Doug:

That was my suggestion for you! I was actually looking at trying to model a countryside. As a result, the CTA cars will not work for me. They do look nice...

With the rainy weather this weekend, I was able to assemble a second table. It has been placed next to the original table and now we will start planning a layout. Since this layout will be dismantled in the next 24 months (when we finish our basement), it will give me a chance to experiment with landscaping. I have no artistic ability, but having this layout will ease my trepidation with an opportunity to practice.

John, I LOVE my F7's. I wanted PRR, but they were such a great deal that I couldn't pass it up. $500 including an LGB lighted caboose. I hope that I can buy another AB set lettered for the PRR.

Hello Colin:

MTS Rules! As you may have seen from some of my questions, I am no electronics expert and MTS significantly mitigates wiring issues. BTW, I like your LGB F7. I am hoping to get one of those some day, either PRR or the warbonnet SF.

I am looking forward to getting DCS for my MTH trains, but the remote/tiu units have been on backorder for some time. From what I have seen, DCS appears to be more robust than MTS.

John, I want an LGB Mikado in the PRR roadname, as well as the MTS system. I hope to get it someday.

Thanks for the feedback. I am hoping to add another 50" x 70" section to the one I just built. Once that is up, we can start finalizing a permanent layout.

Colin:

As for my LGB stuff, I have a small but growing collection. I have a 20 year old Lake George & Boulder starter set (with powered tender). I just purchased a PRR Mikado along with the MTS stuff (5 amp transformer, central station, remote and decoders for the older engine/tender). I am looking forward to adding the LGB club models when the become available. In the meantime, we are putting in a new patio this year and when the work is finished there should be about a 15' x 20' space available to start an outdoor layout.

I se that you are interested in Garden Railroading as well. I am very into that, and have a decent amount of equipment. What do you have in for you Large Scale?

Hello All:

Well, I was finally able to put together a basic table layout for me and my son. It is great to finally get the trains off of the basement floor. While the table lacks any construction sophistication (I am not very mechanically inclined), it seems to be holding up okay.

We are now trying to figure out how to expand it!
