You might want to ask Allan Miller. I think he was involved with some of Greenberg's books, maybe this one.

Martin,
Thanks so much for looking this up. I will keep trying, but I will be bothering you experts from time to time. Thanks again.

John, I have the book, and, looking at the diagram, you are right in surmising that the drawing is done wrong. (Either it was drawn wrong in the first place, or a problem was introduced during the production of the book.)

The left vertical "wire" that goes "under" the little half-circle loops should indeed go "under" the last one and then connect to the bottom horizontal line, which leads to "B". (And that horizontal line should also have a "dot" at the left end, as do all those above it.) Thus each of the six segments of track (blocks) can be connected to either throttle of the KW (A or B), allowing independent control of two trains. (The right column indicates the posts used on a ZW transformer.)

On the "so much to learn" matter, keep at it -- before long, it will all make perfect sense. (Well, most of it, anyway.)

I don't have the book you want so I don't know if you have 3 rail or 2 rail. For 3 rail, thortrains has several articles - http://www.thortrains.net/manualx.htm. For 2 rail the NMRA beginner's section http://www.nmra.org/beginner/consist.html has several articles on wiring with diagrams.
Good luck

I am so new to this railroading so I got a book from the library. It is "Model Railroading A Family Guide" by Bruce Greenberg. On page 44 is figure 8 drawn correctly?
I am assuming that one side of the switch (X1 to X6)is connected to transformer ' A' and the other side to transformer 'B'. The drawing looks as though only X6 is connected to transformer 'B'.
In this set up would the transformer throttles be in a set position and the trains controlled by the 6 switches (X1 to X6)?
I never dreamed there was this much involved with the hobby. If it wasn't for the people in this forum giving me a hand from time to time I think what little I have would be up for sale.
