Lionel KW cord replacement
Posted by thankey on Saturday, April 15, 2006 7:27 PM
Can anyone share some tip on replacing the power cord on a Lionel KW transformer? How do I get to the connections? Are there any special steps to prevent damage if I need to solder the new cord ? Are there any "while you are in there" things that shold be checked or replaced? Any general advice will help me a lot. THanks.

Check the carbon rollers out on the controls while you're in there. Tie a knot in the new cord before it exits the case to prevent undo stress on your solder connections.

Tin your wires before putting them in place to make the connection. Carefully solder the wires, but make sure you don't drop solder into the body of the transformer. Little beads of solder can cause havoc.
Look things over while you are in there and make sure everything is tight.
