Newspaper front page ad space for MTH

This mornings Courier & Press newspaper has a half of the front page picture and story about MTH electric trains produces a model of Evansvilles Greyhound bus station , and the rest of the story is on page 12 . The web site and price and info about Lionel size trains are in the paper and quotes from Edleman of MTH also , a lot of exposure for MTH and the model of the Greyhound bus station and model trains . I was so amazed seeing the front page this AM [:p]

The link is 'bus station to live on' - interesting MTH made and sold approx 1,100 of them.

To clear up what seems to be a common misconception, that is a news story, not an advertisment.
Most newspapers have a strict policy of not running ads on the front page.
It is a neat piece about saving a local landmark though.

I wonder how many buildings need to be built for a production run to be "successful." Obviously, if MTH sold out all of the units, they must have been pleased. I would have thought, however, that they would have made a lot more than 1,100.

Assuming that dealers have a 30% mark up (I have no idea if this is accurate or not and would love some feedback on this), MTH would have sold each building for about $91.00. That translates into just over $100,000.00 in gross revenues. Not bad for just one item.

Very wise of MTH (or anyone else) to focus on a local landmark from time to time if it fits with their overall marketing scheme. They may not sell in large numbers, but if the same item can be used for more "generic" purposes--a bus station for any locale, for example--why not capitalize on the product to the fullest extent possible.
