Hello Everyone
Posted by johnandjulie13 on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 2:15 PM
I have been peering into the boards for the past couple of months and finally took the plunge and started posting today. While I have had model trains since I was a boy, I am new into the hobby. I hope you guys will not mind getting peppered with lots of questions because I am eager to learn as much as I can about these miniature iron horses.

Living in the sw suburbs of Chicago, we have been basking in the glow of World Series Greatness (one every 88 years isn't so bad, Cub fans would KILL for that frequency). The White Sox started well on Sunday and hopefully will keep it up for the rest of the season.

The weather here has been cool. However, in order to keep running trains, I am also planning a small outdoor layout this summer. In addition, we have the added benefit of having the triple tracked BNSF line running near our house.

Regards,

JO

Welcome to the forum Jo..... Lately I see the Chicago area railroaders are gaining membership in this forum now....

Doug, do you work in the Depaul center now, or one of the other offices in the area? I am in the Lewis center Monday nights, and will actually be leading orientation sessions and student teaching a course in the fall too..... I'll be spending a lot of time with DePaul in Lincoln Park and the Loop for the rest of the year.....

Welome Aboard.

My sons and I are big SOX fans. And big train fans!

P.S. Pay no attention to those Indian fans from OHIO. They are nothing but trouble.

Paul - us buckeye boys aren't the bad ones. It's the ones that eat grits and drink sweet tea with tin ears that you have to worry about.

oh yea, Welcome to the CTT forum Jo [:D]

Spankybird,
You need to watch out for us transplanted Philadelphia fans who live in south Florida, it's not that we are correct all the time naw but we have watchout for alligaters and other wild animals.
Any way I am not that happy with remote control systems containing electronics, I know
a good deal about residential electric work and I do not trust electronics because of power spikes & lightning strikes here in south Florida. My layout is protected by a battery backup/power surge (when plugged in)unit from an older computor that somebody gave me when he moved, the batteries are no good but it has surge protection that is supposed to work whether the batteries are good or not. Replacement batteries would cost around $90.00 as there was four of them. Also using a power strip with 1280 juhles
of protection after the power surge unit, electronic burn-out is very high down here in south Florida, everything from microwave to computor is subject to burn-outs!
As far as baseball is concerned: Phillies & Pirates need to squi***he fish(FL Marlins) !!

I am glad that there are so many baseball fans on these boards. It provides an interesting sideline to our train discussions.

Go Sox!

John
