Warrantee Repairs
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, April 14, 2001 1:29 PM
Unfortunately many of us have had the opportunity to return items to the manufacture for warrantee repairs, How would you rate them?
I've had several dealings with Williams (the best) MTH (2nd) and Lionel (the worst)
I based this on, was it done right the fist time or did it need returned again. In the case of Lionel, a new class "A" made 2 trips and took 2 months, you also need an authorization letter for a return. It never was repaired correctly and I ended up taking it to a local hobby shop where it was repaired and quickly sold at a loss.
MTH also requires authorization for returns and the repairs while not being fast did get done correctly.
By far the best is Williams, simply call, they'll provide the mailing address with a recommendation of placing a note inside outlining the problem, within 10 days the item was returned with the repairs made. In one of the 2 dealings I had with Williams I discovered a Big Boy that I had owned for several years tucked away unopened in a storage area had a flaw in the paint on the boiler front and a hesitation in the drivers. I longer had the receipt but they still replaced the boiler front and corrected the hesitation within 10 days at no charge and even tossed in their latest catalog!
