How do I make inexpesive regular trees from "stick" like air filters.

Jaabat gave us a good introduction to making inexpensive conifer trees from foam style air filters. I now have 12 on my layout. He also mentioned using the "tiny stick" like air filters with ground foam to make other trees. I would like to make a buch of trees for my layout and rather than reinventing the wheel would someone tell me how they use "tiny stick" air filters and ground foam to make deciduos trees?
