Cruise control for MTH PS-1 engines

Hey guys don't forget that new system coming soon. It was on the other forum several weeks ago...Titled "who needs dcs or tmcc I don't" Makes interesting reading and may help this fellow out. the way I understand it, a proto 1 engine can be converted cheaply to this new system. You would need the system but as far as I know this system blows all away and conversions will be about $40 steam a little higher and the sounds are pre-loaded of your choosing. Even if you don't need sound, you get it anyway and best of all, cruise is included.

One question. Can't a loco sound model be found in what you would be converting? That would be the best answer for you.

Thats a good idea. spending $200 and doing the labor myself doesnt make sense.

Nobody makes a cruise control upgrade for PS1 locomotives at this time. TAS and Digital Dynamics make TMCC command upgrades that will work with the PS1 sound system, but neither of these systems have speed control.

Your only option is to completely remove the PS1 electronics and replace them with either a MTH PS2 upgrade or a TAS "EOB" upgrade. These upgrades are somewhat expensive and cost roughly $200 if you install them yourself.

If MTH has produced a PS2 or Locosound (Locosound engines have cruise control, but the sound system is awful) version of your locomotive, it might be smarter to buy a newer locomotive and sell the PS1 engine to offset the cost.

TAS has an Engineer on Board cruise control option. If you really want to save the old sound board, you can get a UCUB 2, but it doesn't look like the EOB board is compatable. I believe it will work with all of the other modular boards and can be swapped in for Lionel's Odyssey board (you have to replace the magnetice sensor with an optical one.

I just go to DD and get TMCC and Railsounds [Equalzier will work on some engines] and switch out all boards. TAS has more expensive conversions with CC [I think].

Has anyone come out with a cruise control for MTH PS-1 steam engines. I got a lead to Digital Dynamics from Pigseyes, but their websites cruise control option says still under construction. I have become spoiled by the cruise control on 2 MTH diesels that I have, and by seeing new MTH steamers demo'd at hobby shops. I'm not looking to upgrade to DCS just want the cruise. Any help?
