I had a problem with a PRR K-4 I bought from sun model corp. Lionel refused to help me on my problem. I called train america studios and got thye part I needed. I can't believe you got in touch with K line I tried for over a week. If you havbe a warranty from kline or lionel it is only good for a year. If you need the LCRU radio board it is 40.00 from train america or digtal dynamics.

As Doug said, If you feel comfortable reseat the boards inside. I bought a Lionel engine a few months ago and the R2LC board was loose. I unplugged it and plugged it in again, and it worked perfectly. The R2LC board receives the commands from the Cab 1 and if the connecting pins are not making proper contact, you may get the problem you encountered. I think this happened to mine in shipping. You could also try switching the R2LC board from another known working engine. But again only if you feel comfortable doing this.
Also maybe the first thing to do is switch the engine to comventional mode and see if it operates properly, by raising and lowering the track voltage.

Just my 2 cents...........................Tim

I believe the letter you are referring to is primarily their statement regarding the Sun Models blowout. Like you I am also retired and rarely do I buy any train related items off the shelf. Most of my locos have come from E-Bay, the only exception being one of the K-Line Mikado blowouts by Trainland/Trainworld. All of my rolling stock ia either from E-Bay, internet discounters(significant discounts) or from other sources for used equipment. But I suggest sitting tite for awhile because nobody really knows what the parties involved will or won't be carrying and or servicing until the final arrangements are done and documents signed. Without going in and doing a headcount I think most of my locos are K-Line, followed by Lionel and two Atlas.

Thank you for the reply,I think all of your advice is sound and I will try them one at a time
What gets me thinking that Lionel really isn't going to to alot for K Line owners is the letter wrtten by thir Ceo.
Ineffect he implied that people who brought engines and didn't pay a small fortune for them were looking for somthing for nothing. These company,s feel every one should go into hock to buy their products.
I am a retired man on a fixed income and 1000 to1800 dollars for an engine is out of
the question.
What gets me is the companys like three rail or other custom engine builders are not off some of the asking price of some currant Lionel.engines.
K Line produced engines that were really fine ..before the stupid move that got them into trouble, and they didn'charge a small fortune.

Have you tried contacting Trainland?
If you aren't getting any support from the dealer(s) would you feel comfortable pulling the shell off and reseatting all of the components as well as doing a visual inspection of the wiring for shorts/lose etc ?
Before spending money for repairs I think I would sit on it for awhile til the Lionel/K-Line dust settles to see what will happen as far warranties go.

I got a K Line Gp38 a couple of months ago from train world in Brooklyn .
I bought it over the phone as I live in New Jersey. It has Tmcc and smoke.I am useing a MTH z1000 transformer .I have both mth and Lionel,s command systems. My problem is when I put the engine on the track it responds fine to the Cab. one for about 5 minutes or so then it goes nuts ,speeds up and refuses to respond to the Cab one. I changed the batterys in the Cab one and put a new 9 volt in the engine. Nothing works. Other K Line engines with command are fine so it is this engine. My local K Line Store says nothing can be done as K Line isn,t sending parts. I contacted K Line and they only refered me to a dealer that wants to put new LIonel boards at my expense. If thats my only out I would rather deal with Train U.S.A a any Ideas guys?
