I bought the Burlington SD-28 new in 1981 and have never had a problem. Its a good runner & puller. Kind of disappointed that it doesnt have a horn so I just ordered a rail sounds boxcar to add to the consist. Just oil & grease per the instruction sheet & you will be fine for many years to come.

Hello rlbarnard! & [#welcome] to the forum here. What a coincedence. I've a Burlington on layaway at Stewart's Hobbies here in Willoughby & it will be paid for next weekend. They come equipped with a Pullmore Motor, Heavy six-wheel diecast trucks & a mechanical reverse unit. No Magne-Traction on this unfortunately. However, My understanding is that these are very smooth runners & have been known to pull 20 freight cars minimum due to the weight of the front trucks which have no plastic bottoms on them like some of the early Alco,GP9 Series from the 70's & they run very nice. I doubt yours will have any problems. I'll have to get mine over to the OTTS layout after I clean & grease it to replace all of the old hardened grease in the Gearbox.(This one is Mint in the Box) Take Care.

And I am quiet pleased with my C&O SD-28 (Lionel 18834, blt. 1994). I just bought it this way and did not even service it yet.

It is a good and strong runner, it handles switches perfectly and is basically my best modern diesel.
Nothing beats a finished and restored train car......

Hi,

I recently acquired a Lionel SD-28 (Lionel #8151, Burlington). Kind of late to ask this now, but what has your experience been with them? I understand there is one one other model out there also, #8380 Lionel Lines.
