Lionel Duluth Missabe & Iron Range engines questions.
Posted by Boyd on Thursday, March 16, 2006 1:34 AM
I think Lionel has made 3 or 4 engines in the DMIR paint scheme. I have the 8158 powered GP9 from 81 which is A.C. with one big motor that sticks up into the cab. There was a 8159 matching dummy engine too. What are the numbers, years and details of the other DMIR engines Lionel has made. Details I'm looking for are D.C. or A.C., 1 or 2 motors, values and any other notable details.

Several ebay stores are selling an SD-9 made by Lionel but it is 2-rail American Flyer. Haven't seen anything else besides the 8158 that is always erroniously listed as a GP-35.

Lionel produced an O Gauge Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range SD38 and Extended-Vision Caboose for a J.C. Penney Christmas Catalog. It has 2-Motors and is A.C. like all the other GP38s or SD38s produced by Lionel during the 1990's.

Do a product search on www.Lionel.com in the Products section for details on all the recent Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range Locomotives and cars.

Lionel recently produced a GP38 in the DM&IR Graphics.

The web site for the Missabe Historical Society apparently has a busy webmaster who will never get around to updating these facts.
