Just to let everyone know, this particular engine has a chuff rate of only 1 chuff per revolution. I verified it by looking at the lever that operates the microswitch. It operates off the left side of the engine only so it appears there is no problem with it after all. Go figure. My smoke unit however has a burned up element and the 2RLC radio board is bad now as well. Anyone know where I can get a replacement element for this engine and the board? I saw where TAS had the board for like $40.00??? This engine does NOT have the fan driven smoker but it has the piston driven one.

If you swapped out boards you probably need to repogram the loco for it's feature set.

"I believe it should be 2 chuff rate for this engine." If you're referring to the prototype, it's usually four chuffs per revolution, one at each end of the piston travel for each side of the locomotive.

General: I think I might have the same loco in Pennsylvania road name. My loco does have a mechanical lever that operates the chuff. I contacted TAS and they told me there is an upgrade board that can be installed that allows you to set the chuff rate as well as other operating enhancements. I decided that for the cost, something north of $100, and the wiring required, that I could live with it for now. If you decide to do the retro, please tell us how it goes.

On this engine, I believe that the chuff rate is dependent on the lever that drives the puffer-type smoke unit. If that's the case, most Lionels only have one chuff per wheel revolution.

I have a LONG ISLAND 2-8-0 Consolidation Steam Locomotive & Tender 6-38036 with railsounds and Odyssey. The chuff is only occuring once every full revolution. I believe it should be 2 chuff rate for this engine. Anyone have any idea what would be causing this? All of the other sounds work fine. Also when I turn on the smoke unit it starts boiling and the Triac starting smoking as well. I swapped out the receiver board to another one and the smoke unit doesn't work no matter what I do with it. I'm guessing I have two bad receiver boards and possibly the smoke unit itself?
