054 radius curves

I am wondering if it is possible to use Lionel tubular 054 curves with 031 straights to make the outside oval on a 5x9 layout ?. Also if the answer is yes what radius would fit in the inside oval ?

Tin plate track comes in two basic flavors, O, and O-27. O has a higher profile and is made of a heavier gauge of steel. Both come in different radii. Are you asking about use of "O" style track, O-27 style track, or a mixture. You can get O-42 curved section in O style track so you could have an O-42 or an O-31 loop inside an O-54 loop. You can mix curves to make a different diameter if needed, aka an O-42 followed by two O-31's followed by an O-42 will complete a turn but the diameter will be somewhere between O-42 and O-31.

O54 and O72 are both available in O27 profile from K-line. You'll have to do a little looking, but it's out there.

On a 5x9 I would go with O42 on the inner loop, or whatever the closest equivalent to O42 would be in the track system you plan to use.

For those of you who have replied, I'm sorry for not being a little more specific. I'll be using all Lionel tubular O guage track.

54" turns will only give you 3" of space on each side of your table's edge. Making the outer loop with 42" turns and one 10" straight in the middle will give you 4" on each side. You can then either use 42" or 31" for you inner loop. If you use 42" for the inner loop, you could add a third loop using 31" turns as the inner-most loop.
