M-U-ing two Lionel 4-4-2 3547 Wisc Central engines?

If I bought another Lionel 4-4-2 or another same era/wiring Lionel Steam engine, could I wire then to work together using one of their E-units or would I need a bigger E-unit with more capacity?
Also with a 13 car train behind it seems overloaded and will stop dead in its tracks after moving just 1/2 inch. I'm also considering selling this engine and buying a bigger stronger steamer. I love long trains!

Lionel always claimed that you could run 4 motors on one e-unit. Although they differed in details like the length of the on-off switch, e-units were all almost identical; so there wouldn't be a bigger one to use!

An intriguing idea! You'd have to come up with some sort of coupler or drawbar on the pilot of one of the 4-4-2s as they don't have front couplers.

The Lionel "B-6" 0-4-0 does have a front coupler and might work with your 4-4-2. New versions are available for about $140. Older versions can often be found around $100 in very good shape.
