Hello All Chris- I thought Walter was talking about the new 6805 that was just released as the older versions are not always easy to find & expensive also. We'll have to see if he clarifys this for us. Then we can help him better.Take Care all.

Keith, the 6805 was a Postwar car (1958-59) - no circuit boards back then!

The flashing lamps Bob referenced are 402-300's, rated at 12V; the diodes he mentioned would reduce 18V to 12.6V, just what is needed.

From what I can see on the Internet, the 6805 uses a pair of flashing lamps. One way to lower the voltage, by about 30 percent, is to put a rectifier diode in series with each lamp. The 1N4001 (cheapest) through 1N4007 should do. I would operate it with each diode in the opposite direction from the other, to balance the DC component of the currents.

Your 6805 may have a circuit board to make the Lights flash. If in doubt give Lionel a call at 1-586-949-4100 & ask their Service Dept for sure. Take Care.

Thanks Keith, Do you know if the 24 volt bulbs can be made to blink like the original?

Hello Walter! You may have to change the Lightbulbs to 24volt versions found at many Hobby Shops or just run it on conventional.Hope this helps. [#welcome] to the forum & take care.

Does anyone know how to run the Lionel 6805 Radioactive car on TMCC / DSC voltage of 16 to 18 volts without burning out the bulbs?
